After School Program
Mission: The mission of the Hands of Christ After School Program is to enable Cartersville area students to develop to their fullest potential and to become successful contributing members of their community by providing creative opportunities for academic support, community service, cultural enrichment and character development in a safe environment.
Schedule: Mon. Tue. Thurs. 3:30-6:00pm according to the Cartersville City School Calendar
The Hands of Christ After School Program at Douglas Street UMC serves 125 students in grades 4-12. Students in grades K-3 attend the Hands of Christ After School Program at First Presbyterian Church.
Students enjoy a healthy snack which includes fresh fruit and vegetables as well as low fat dairy products. Enrichment time allows students to participate in novel studies, Hispanic heritage activities, character education and leadership development. After completing homework, students may choose from a number of options including computer lab, small animal care, arts and crafts, outdoor recreation or community service. Various field trips are scheduled throughout the year, as well as 15-20 days of summer programming. The program is staffed with certified teachers in every grade level classroom, as well as para pros and college interns. The staff/student ratio is 1/7. In addition, we are a field experience site for Kennesaw State University School of Education, with up to 30 students per semester doing field experience.
